Contenu principal

Gars

The village is located at the foot of the Gars mountain, is crossed by the Esteron, the wildest river in Europe.

A haven of peace and a source of inspiration, Gars surprises with his houses of medieval origin pressed against each other.

The water is very abundant: a multitude of springs feed the fountains and washhouses of the Roman era.

It is the native land of the famous pedagogue Célestin Freinet.

The essentials

Saint-Sauveur parish church

Dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, the parish church of Saint Sauveur was attached to the priory of the monks of Lérins. Listed as a historical monument since 1936, this church is typical of the monastic buildings of the region.

It has a single nave with 3 spans, with a medieval apse, a double bell tower and a broken hanger door.
