Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey
Saint-Vallier de Thiey is a pleasant stop on the Napoleon road. It has multiple charms, both historical and natural.
Among the natural curiosities: the natural bridge of Ponadieu, a “druid” stone and many caves and cavities arranged.
In terms of heritage, Saint-Vallier has a past full of history, from prehistoric times (Lombard cave, Neolithic, Verdoline dolmen, camp de la Malle) to the Napoleonic era.
The essentials
Baume Obscure cave
In the heart of a vast wooded limestone plateau overlooking the gorges of the Haute Siagne hides a real jewel of nature. The sousterroscope invites the visitor to live a unique experience, delivered to himself and guided by sound, image and light.
The diversity of playful, visual and didactic approaches make it an incredible museographic show, with effects of shadows and lights adapted to a very wide audience.
Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church
It is one of the oldest churches in the region and was built in several stages. The primitive church, built in the 12th century, had only the central nave. The apse and the bell tower, both in Romanesque style, were added later. The Gothic-style side nave in 1555. In the period that followed, the altar of Baroque art was added. Finally, the main door dates from 1667.
The natural bridge of Ponadieu
It results from the limestone deposit (tuf) of a source that has now disappeared. The Siagne, a river that originates at the foot of the Audibergue, in the municipality of Escragnolles and flows into the Mediterranean in Mandelieu, accompanies visitors throughout this hike accessible to all.
The trail that leads to the Ponadieu bridge runs partly along the Combe valley, in the shade of large holm oaks. Nearby is the Saint-Jean chapel.
