See the French Riviera through the eyes of the great artists!
The “Côte d´Azur des Peintres” Route takes the form of some thirty stands bearing weatherproof reproductions of the landscapes painted by the great masters.
These displays are on the exact spots where the painters placed their easels holding the original works at the moment they were being created. The works represented are by such geniuses as Claude Monet, Raymond Peynet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse, Chaïm Soutine, Raoul Dufy, Pierre Bonnard, Marc Chagall, and Jean Cocteau.
Seaside landscapes, towns and villages, squares and alleys, gardens – the Côte d’Azur’s infinite attractions were captured by the artists in exquisite detail.
Follow this route and walk in the footsteps of these many painters in Antibes/Juan-Les-Pins, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Grasse, Le Cannet, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Menton, Mougins, Cannes, and Villeneuve-Loubet.
The route offers a chance to see these locations from a different perspective, forming a trail that will enchant art lovers.
Note that a great many of these works can be seen in the Riviera’s own museums. It is also possible to tour local art foundations and artists’ workshops and, most exciting of all, simply go to the actual sites that inspired some of the world’s greatest painters.
In Grasse, another aesthetic is at work in the old town, where the architectural attractions of medieval buildings, 17th-century mansions, and beautiful 18th-century villas cluster around the cathedral.
Along the alleys and squares of Grasse, you can savor this architectural wonderland and discover works painted by Charles Nègre, Raoul Dufy, Yvon Peron, and Erwin Sutter.
