Caille<\/h1>\n

The Parc de la Mouli\u00e8re, nestled in the heart of the Pre-Alpes d’Azur, is a real playground for lovers of nature and adventure. Summer and winter, it offers a wide range of activities: hiking, mountain biking, treetop park<\/a>, zipline<\/a> for thrill seekers, while the winter season invites snowshoeing. From the summits, a spectacular panorama opens up on the Mercantour and the Mediterranean, offering an ideal setting to combine sport and contemplation.<\/p>\n

A few kilometers away, Caille, a typical village of the Pre-Alps, is nestled at the bottom of an agricultural plain, former polj\u00e9 (karst collapse basin) at the foot of the Baou Roux. Its history, which dates back to prehistoric times, is expressed through a preserved architectural heritage, highlighted by the municipality for several years.<\/p>\n

The old castle, the church adorned with 18th century paintings, the washhouse, the bread oven, as well as the 18th century houses with door and window frames made of cut stones or wood, invite you to stroll and discover a rich and authentic past.<\/p>\n

The essentials<\/h2>\n

Saint-Etienne parish church<\/h3>\n

Before the construction of the new church, there was already a church dedicated to Saint-Etienne at the same location. Originally oriented to the east, work that began in 1866 reoriented the new church to the north, building its choir on the old cemetery. Adorned with 18th century paintings, the new church has a square bell tower and a single nave.<\/p>\n

Caille castle<\/h3>\n

The castle, whose construction was prior to the 16th century, was remodeled several times over the centuries before finally being divided in 1868. Several large seigneurial families succeeded each other at the castle from the 13th to the 18th century. The entablatement of the original door appears in a neo-classical style, favoring the ordering of the lines and symmetry.<\/p>\n

Caille washehouse<\/h3>\n

Dating from the beginning of the 20th century, the washhouse belongs to the last generation of village washhouses. Recently decorated with a fresco illustrating a typical scene of the time when the villagers did their laundry around the washhouse.
