The essentials
In La Roquette-sur-Siagne, we alternate between heritage and nature. Accessible by the Camino de Compostela, the Saint-Jean chapel has had an eventful history: burned during the Revolution after the abolition of worship, then sold, it was transformed into a barn and stable by its new owner. Rebuilt in 1850 and dedicated to Saint John, it was inaugurated in 1856. It is still popular today, and its small garden invites tourists and residents to rest, in the shade of large plane trees.
For a parenthesis of serenity, the botanical trail runs along the Béal canal, from the Saint-Jean chapel to the Val de Siagne Cultural and Sports Area, reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. As soon as you enter, the splash of the water between the reeds and the horsetails soothes, and we discover a multitude of aquatic plants that naturally filter the channel. A water hen lets itself be rocked over the water, a kingfisher is on the lookout, and by diving the gaze we see vains and gardons going up the current of a crystal clear water. A feast for the eyes, accessible to all.
To complete the visit of the village, the Saint-Georges church and the Saint-François-de-Sales church also deserve a stop.
