Peymeinade

At the foot of the Alps and 20 km from the sea, Peymeinade benefits from a privileged environment, among olive trees and flower crops. Inhabited since Roman times, it was a commercial crossroads between Nice and Provence, where spices, skins and corals from Cannes circulated.

A once rural Provencal city, turned towards the cultivation of flowers, it groups its old houses around the 18th century church and its beautiful 19th century round fountain adorned with lion heads. Faithful to its commercial past, the village comes alive every Monday morning with its market. Nearby, beautiful walks await walkers, along the Siagne canal or in the Peygros forest.

The essentials

In Peymeinade, the heritage is discovered in the heart of the old village. The Saint-Roch church, inaugurated in 1746 (the date is written on its pediment), replaces a small chapel built by the inhabitants, which has since become its sacristy. It is placed under the protection of Saint Roch, patron saint against the plague that ravaged the region in the 14th century.

Not far away, Place Gervais Court invites you to stroll. It once hosted the Saint-Roch, a festival celebrated every year in the first days of August: we danced to the sound of an orchestra perched on the washhouse, we savored the wine of honor and we participated in games and contests. There is still the washhouse, restored and covered in 1938, and a small fountain, among the first facilities to transport water to the village in 1873. A fountain with four lion heads and a trompe-l’oeil facade also adorn the old village square.
