Contenu principal

Saint-Auban

At the foot of the rock of Tracastel, where the ancient fortified habitat of which remains remain stood, Saint-Auban has kept the traces of its medieval past. Its stretched alleys and its luminous Gothic church make its charm, while the clues of the Esteron, which border the village and house a chapel, give it its magnetism.

The municipality, a home of more than 200 inhabitants, extends its territory over several hamlets. Shady lakes and bucolic paths transport you from one to the other, discovering the richness of its history and legends.

Between ancient stones, water and preserved nature, Saint-Auban invites you to walk and daydream.

The essentials

In Saint-Auban, nature and heritage are discovered hand in hand. Summer and winter, Terre des Lacs, an eco-tourist complex labeled “Green Key” and “Quality Tourism”, offers a stay in harmony with nature: canyoning, tree climbing, horseback riding or trout fishing. For athletes, the Saint-Auban clue offers a renowned canyoning course of about 3h30 (access and return on foot included), fun and punctuated by obstacles that follow one another throughout the descent.

At the top of the village, the church of Saint-Étienne and Saint-Auban, dating from the 16th century, is distinguished by its foothills and its flamboyant Gothic portal. Even higher, at about 1,250 meters above sea level, the Tracastel gate, a remnant of medieval fortification from the 13th century and perimeter door restored in 2007, offers a splendid panorama.

To understand the history of the village, the ecomuseum, installed in the old Post Office, highlights the objects of local heritage and the activities of yesteryear, while the heritage route, imagined by the association Saint-Auban d’Hier et d’Aujourd’hui, invites you to survey the places that make the interest of the village.

Sport, history and wide open spaces: in Saint-Auban, we live nature as much as we contemplate it.
