Amirat

On the southern slope of a hill, the village of Amirat offers an exceptional panorama of the upper Estéron valley. Of medieval origin, then located higher, it was totally abandoned and then rebuilt at the end of the 16th century.

Built on a hillside, at 860 meters above sea level, it is nestled in the middle of green hills and surrounded by vast forests. A true haven of peace, sunny most of the time, Amirat fills lovers of nature, calm and silence.

Do you like hiking? Here, you can do it on foot, on horseback or by bike, and of all levels.

Between clear horizons and forests as far as the eye can see, Amirat invites you to slow down and breathe.

The essentials

In Amirat, heritage tells the story of life in the past. Built after the separation of Amirat and Castelet-Saint-Cassien, the Sainte-Anne church recalls its defensive function with its buttresses and the small number of openings: in case of danger, the inhabitants could take refuge there. Adorned with a double Genoese, a decorative element that also indicated the social rank and wealth of the owner, it foreshadows the renewal of the village in modern times.

In the Maupoil district, the Saint-Jeannet chapel was probably originally a penitent chapel. It bears the name of the patron saint of the men of Amirat. Its porch, as large as the building itself, was designed to house pilgrims, and it contains a beautiful wooden gate.

To extend the discovery, a village farm and hiking on the GR4 invite you to soak up rural life and landscapes.

Stones, faith and trails: in Amirat, we advance to the rhythm of the village.
